Sonya Impelluso, music director for the Tucson Desert Harmony Chorus, blends her passion of directing with over 25 years of teaching and mentoring experience. Ms. Impelluso is an award-winning educator who nurtures musicians of all levels and ages, serving educational institutions over the years in New Jersey, Rhode Island, North Carolina, and Arizona.
Hailing from the New York City Metro region, Ms. Impelluso’s musical journey began at an early age, influenced by the rich cultural landscape of the city. She is a proficient musician, with advanced skills in voice, winds, strings and guitar. In addition to her teaching career, she is a member of Somethin’s Brewin’ Quartet, and regularly competes in Sweet Adelines Region 21. Ms. Impelluso has served as the Orchestra Regional Chair for the southwestern Arizona region since 2016 and served as a clinician and coach for Youth In Harmony quartets.
Ms. Impelluso received her B.M. in Music Education from Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ, and her M.M. in Music Management from the William Paterson University of New Jersey in Wayne, NJ. She is currently the music department chair at Amphitheater High School in Tucson and resides in the city.
